Island Health Care is seeking a Clinical Nurse Manager to supervise the RN and MA staff and implement and oversee quality improvement activities in the clinical setting to ensure delivery of the highest quality patient care, optimal patient flow, clinical team productivity, and continuity of care. Public Health Nurse

Practice Office Associate

Community Health Worker (CHW)

As an integral part of a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Interprofessional Care Team, the CHW will support the health education needs of patients, engage in regular assessments pertaining to the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH), and assess health risks and identify gaps pertaining to SDOH which create barriers to patients’ health and wellness goals and contribute to unmet needs. The CHW will work to connect patients with resources and provide ongoing advocacy, support, and care coordination. The work of the CHW often extends to the wider community where their unique skillset makes them well equipped to identify persons in-need or at-risk and to connect them with the health center and other community services. The CHW encourages behaviors that promote both the wellness and health of the individuals and communities they serve, and provides a link between the community, health educators, and other healthcare and social service professionals. The CHW has a close understanding of the community she/he/ze/they serve(s) and is therefore able to act as a liaison between community members and the health/social services available to them. Brazilian Portuguese fluency is highly desirable and will be compensated in the form of additional pay.

Current Inter-Island Public Health Excellence Coalition Job Openings

Public Health Inspector

The Inter-Island Public Health Excellence Coalition is currently seeking a Public Health Inspector to perform Inspection and investigatory work pertaining to the enforcement of applicable health and safety codes, protection of the environment and control of disease and other related work, as required.

Incumbent Under the direction and supervision of the town health agents, the position will enforce federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to public health and safety; investigate food borne illness outbreaks; inspect, license and regulate food service establishments, day care centers, nursing homes, food distribution programs, retail food stores and special events; educate food handlers on prevention of food-borne illness; investigate and respond to complaints relating to unsanitary, dangerous and/or unsafe living conditions and environments, rodent and insect control, drinking water and septic systems; respond to general complaints, including
nuisances, odors, rabies control, air quality, solid waste, hazardous waste, etc.

This inspector may also assist the town’s health agent in restaurant plan reviews, inspection of swimming pools, children’s camps, body art establishments, tanning salons, and tobacco control. In addition, the inspector may participate in interdepartmental housing and short term rental inspections with the Building, Fire and Police Departments for all six Martha’s Vineyard Towns and Nantucket. At the direction of the supervisory staff, the inspector  may also be called upon to participate in court complaints and cases of non-compliance using administrative and/or judicial procedures.

Community & Population Health Specialist (Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket)

currently seeking a Public Health Community and Population health
specialist to apply their unique understanding of the experience,
language and/or culture of the populations of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket to the delivery of public health services.

The applicant is expected to be distinguished from other public health professionals because they:

  • Are hired primarily for their understanding of the populations
    and communities they serve;
  • Spend a significant portion of time conducting outreach in the
    categories enumerated in the responsibilities section;
  • Have experience providing services in community settings of
    the Islands.

In addition, the applicant may be called upon to participate in
interdepartmental actions involving health and safety-related social
determinants of health concerns raised by responses by the Building,
Fire and Police Departments or from other sources for all six Martha’s
Vineyard Towns and Nantucket.

Public Health Biologist (Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket)

investigation, surveillance, and public education for vector-borne diseases and environmental exposures.

An incumbent in the Public Health Biologist position will apply scientific methods, principles, and experience in basic medical entomology, zoology, parasitology, toxicology, coordinate emergency vector control, as required.

The PH Biologist will serve as a key resource for local health agencies on developing and advancing research efforts on environmental health, human health and animal risks, associated with viruses and environmental exposures as well as contributing to municipal and community-based climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts as appropriate,

COVID-19 Test Site Volunteers

Drive-thru diagnostic testing for COVID-19 is available for any asymptomatic Islander or visitor who wants a test.

The test site at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School is open from 9AM to 3:30PM Monday-Friday. Clinical and non-clinical volunteers are needed. If interested, please email islandhealthcaremv@gmail.com.
