Rebecca Flanders-Clements, Lead Practice Office Associate
Becky joined Island Health Care in February 2016 after working as a receptionist and Office Manager at Vineyard Medical Services walk-in clinic for close to ten years. Her experience handling patients’ questions and concerns, and her familiarity with referrals, insurance requirements and electronic health records has allowed her to join the health center patient support team without missing a beat. Born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard, with two children and husband Albert, Becky embodies the Island spirit.
Priya Esposito, Medical Records Clerk
Priya joined the Island Health Care staff in January of 2015, assuming the management of medical records during the transition from paper to electronic health records. She also assists in the referral and follow-up process for patients needing to see specialists or other off-site care. She consistently works under HIPAA regulations to ensure that all records are kept confidential and secure.
Dilcelia Guimaraes, Referral Coordinator
Dilcelia—Di to her friends and coworkers—joined Island Health Care in 2012. She has worked as a medical interpreter, medical assistant, and practice office associate, gladly filling in wherever she is needed. Di now leads referral coordination for our patients, acting as liaison among the practitioners, patients, specialists, other facilities and insurance providers to secure appointments and reimbursement for services. She is a key member of the patient care team and follows each referral from start to finish.
Shawn Scherer, Outreach/Enrollment Specialist
Shawn is a Certified Insurance Navigator who works at both Island Health Care and the Vineyard Health Care Access Program in Oak Bluffs, assisting clients in enrolling and maintaining affordable health insurance coverage. She also manages the health center’s Sliding Fee Discount Program. Shawn is passionate about her work, opening paths to access and services for many who have previously been denied the care they need.
Maryellen Nixon, Billing Manager
Maryellen came to IHC in October of 2014, an accomplished biller and coder with over 20 years experience in health care. Her role on the administrative team is to provide accurate and timely billing for patient encounters and to help patients deal with their insurance payment issues. She is also available to explain all billing policies and procedures, including the Sliding Fee Discount Program.
